Sheet metal is available as flat pieces or as a coiled strip. The coils are formed by running a continuous sheet of metal through a roll slitter. Type 304 Stainless Steel sheet has a very low carbon content ( .08 ) With 304L grade material having an even lower amount of carbon content ( .03 ) Less carbon = more corrosion resistance.

The thickness of the sheet metal is called its gauge. The gauge of sheet metal ranges from 30 gauge to about 7 gauge. The higher the gauge, the thinner the metal. Thicknesses can vary significantly, although extremely thin thicknesses are considered foil or leaf, and pieces thicker than 6 mm (0.25 in) are considered plate.

Standard widths are 36”, 48”, 60” and 72”. Standard lengths are 96” , 120” and 144” with the ability to order longer cut lengths to size at the time the coil is being processed.

Stainless Steel Sheets corrosive resistant properties make it ideal for a wide variety of applications. It is easily welded by most commercial processes with the exception of forging. Ideal applications for stainless sheet include, but not limited to, the processing of food and beverage products as well as, dairy products , beef products and poultry products. Also, high acidity applications such as citric acid and nitric acid are common with stainless sheet products. The food processing industry relies heavily on stainless sheet products for its sanitation properties and ease of cleaning.
